Tricia Johnson
- Sign language teacher
I'm Tricia Johnson- BSL tutor
I hold a BSL NVQ level 3 qualification and have recently completed BSL Level 6 BSL training. I have been teaching over 23 years, holding teaching qualifications which enable me to teach through all age groups (pre and post 16yrs). I have taught for the local Adult Education provider in West Sussex, I have also taught BSL at Chichester College, Northbrook College and Chichester University, along with running my own private courses and tuition. During this time, I have taught Introduction to BSL, Level 1 and Level 2 Signature qualification courses.
I ran a Communication Club in West Sussex for 6 years, where I led level 1 and 2 homework groups, practise sessions, signed karaoke and organised Deaf and Hard of Hearing events.
Throughout my career I have worked as a Communication Support Worker (CSW) for several colleges and educational centres. I have also worked in a BSL Personal Support role on a regular basis for the Independent Living Association.
I have over 10 years’ experience teaching Adults with Learning Difficulties. Working both in education and local care homes.
I currently offer:
• Individual British Sign Language tuition (both in person and online).
• Small group British Sign Language tuition.
• Local groups/societies/talks about BSL and Deaf Awareness
• Introduction to British Sign Language for Cubs, Brownies, Scouts, Guides.
• Corporate Deaf Awareness training.
• Short Sign Language courses for Care homes, Schools, Playgroups and other settings.
I like to tailor my tuition to the students (or group) so that everyone can get the most out of their BSL learning journey. I encourage students to dive into Deaf culture and understand BSL word order as early as possible so they can grow into confident signers at whatever level they hope to achieve.
